Good things come in small packages 🙂 Tagline of my life! I’ve been told I look tall(er?) in my photos than in real life. Haha not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but just to clarify – I am 5 feet tall. I’m used to standing on my tiptoes, always looking up, being forced into the middle seat of a car, and digging through clothing racks to find the smallest size. I’m a huge advocate of girls embracing who they are, and that’s exactly what I try to do! I LOVE being petite. Sure, there may be some downside to being small (can’t see over anyone’s head in concerts, acting as a human arm rest for guys, and getting easily pushed around/elbowed in a crowded bar, the list goes on…) – but overall I think it is great!
I’m the girl that will ALWAYS wear heels when I go out. I won’t ever wear flats – I can’t explain it, but I just feel so SMALL (not in a good way) when a bunch of people are towering over me in a bar. This makes it all the more fun when I go shopping! The smallest heels I’ll buy is 4 inches, and I like to stick to 5-6 inch heels or boots (look at these fun mesh ones from Rosegal!). Of course, I always get the question, “How do you WALK in those?!” Come on people, I’ve been short all my life and I’ve been rocking heels ever since I went out during college. My feet may not be too happy by the end of the night, but beauty is pain sometimes 😉 Plus…heels keep my calves in shape without ever having to work them out at the gym! Maxi dresses or jumpsuits are often a length issue for me, but on the bright side…I can wear some long tops as dresses or buy a large size for a cute oversized look!
I’ve been really thankful that brands have started to become really conscious of the varying shapes and sizes of women, and have started catering to our needs. I know sometimes it can be hard to find the perfect size and there might be multiple trips to the tailor, but companies are truly taking the initiative to understand our bodyframe. For all my other petite gals, below are a couple of petite-friendly stores that cater to us fun-size women with a special petite section on their site!
P.S. How fun is this bleeding hearts/love wall? Oh, the murals you come across in Nolita…
