Mexico City is just so different than what typically comes to mind when hearing the word ‘Mexico’. It’s definitely not the scenic beach views or blue waters. And while some may assume and associate CDMX with a reputation of being ‘dangerous, dirty, and crowded’…I can attest that my experience was the complete opposite of that. It’s a must-see, must-do adventure. Mexico City is slowly becoming recognized for all of its great parts: gorgeous architecture, delicious cuisine and amazing culture. If you’re down for an unbelievable experience, see below for a full CDMX ‘places to go & things to see’ guide:
CDMX AREAS:
- Condesa â This is where my roomie and I stayed in our airbnb! It was such an adorable, colorful, artsy neighborhood. It has a ton of fab restaurants and bars.
- Roma â Apparently the hipster part of town for all you Brooklyn/Austin kinda peeps 😛
- Coyoacán â This area is known for the best museums and street markets. It’s where the Frida Kahlo museum is located!
- San Angel â Unfortunately we didn’t have time to explore this area 🙁 It looks amazing though, with its colorful plazas and intricate mansions.
- Polanco â The bougie part of town 😉 When Beverly Hills meets Mexico City.
TOP PLACES/THINGS TO DO/VISIT:
- Museo de Anthropologica – This place is enormous and the artifacts are endless. Be sure to allocate a good couple hours for this museum.
- Palacio de Bellas Artes – This palace is breathtaking – my roomie & I took most of our photoshoot in front of this area.
- Palacio National in Zócalo– The seat of the federal executive in Mexico. This site has been a palace for the ruling class of Mexico since the Aztec empire.
- Mueso de Frida Kahlo – This museum displays works of art from the world famous painter, Frida Kahlo. Her work is reflective of her tough life, and its truly touching.
- Museo de Diego Rivera Mural – This displayed works of art from Frida Kahlo’s husband, Diego Rivera – also a famous mural painter.
- Xochimilco – Definitely my FAVORITE activity by far. If you love colorful boats and pure happiness, this is for you. Keep a lookout for photos from this adventure soon 🙂
- Chapultepec Castle – This place is a dream where you’ll feel like royalty when visiting! My solo shots in this post took place here 🙂
- Ciudadela Market – Shop away and snag those cheap souvenirs for everyone!
PTO can be tough to take off sometimes, but it’s nice to kick back and enjoy a new kind of scenery every now and then, right? Until my next adventure…
