Quarantining at home calls for.. *finally* an apartment reveal! It’s been 4 months since we moved to Chicago from New York, so I think it’s time to share with y’all our space. ALSO, since moving to Chicago, I was able to keep my job from NYC and work fully remote. I wasn’t sure if I would like it at first, and I definitely always miss my coworkers – but overall I actually really like it! The past few months have taught me A TON about working from home, so as a little bonus – I thought I’d share some WFH tips with y’all. Everyone is basically a remote employee during this time anyways, right?!
WFH TIPS:
- Be super organized with your calendar! I mean, you should’ve been organized before whether you work from home or not – but this is key to being productive.
- Set a schedule for yourself with what works best for you. A lot of people say it’s key to start your day early, but I disagree. I’m so not a morning person – so I may start a tad later in the day, but I sometimes trickle into doing work at night because I feel more productive then. Obviously it’s important to be available to your coworkers, so keep that in mind too!
- Put time blocks on your schedule for taking a break – whether that be for lunch or to take a walk outside. It’s so easy to just get into work mode and take NO breaks – which is not good. Balance is key!
- Have some areas set for where you can be productive – I bought a little computer side table so I can easily work on my couch, and I also work from my kitchen counter. I actually don’t love working at a desk at home! And that’s totally okay. I just wouldn’t recommend working in bed ๐ I always like to work in a super clean, decluttered area too.
- Be sure to do your morning routine as usual – you don’t want to feel icky while doing work. ๐
- It’s okay to wear comfy clothes and not fully dress up everyday, but changing out of PJs and maybe putting on some makeup will make you feel more energized.
- Turn on some music or a podcast to keep the apt from being super quiet (unless you need that to be productive).
- If you live with a significant other/roommate, communication is key. CJ & I will always let each other know what times we have calls/meetings, and ask if it’s okay to take them out loud etc. Luckily we live in a one bedroom apt, so when we have simultaneous calls I take calls from our bedroom and let him work in the living room where his desk is.
- Remember to hydrate! I’m so bad at this and still working on it myself.
- Set some goals for yourself each day! You got this!
